About Alex

About Alex

Alex is passionate about helping people get through difficult periods in their lives and sharing in their journey of self-discovery. He works from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) perspective that he tailors to the individual, and incorporates techniques from other approaches to improve his treatment outcomes.

Alex completed his psychology training at the University of Wollongong, including a 4-year Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours, and a 2-year Master of Psychology (Clinical).

He has experience working in public health, private practice, and not-for-profit. He has provided assessment and evidence based treatment to individuals across the lifespan from adolescents to older adults experiencing a range of psychological difficulties. These have included depression, chronic mood disorders, interpersonal challenges, personal loss, insomnia, emotional dysregulation, and various types of anxiety (generalised anxiety, worry, panic, phobias, health anxiety, social anxiety and OCD). Alex finds it especially rewarding to help people overcome their anxiety conditions, and he is happy to conduct sessions outside of the office to ensure graded exposure treatments are as effective as possible.

Alex has called Sydney home for the past 10 years, however prior to this he lived in his birth country of Norway. As well as being fluent in English he also speaks Norwegian and intermediate level Greek.

In addition to his work with myLife, Alex is employed as a clinical psychologist at the Prince of Wales Hospital with the Older Persons’ Mental Health Service. Alex is also a board-approved supervisor, providing clinical supervision to psychologists in training.  In addition to his clinical work, Alex has completed a Master of Economic Analysis with the University of Sydney, which he hopes to progress to a PhD and to eventually combine his interests in psychology and behavioural economics.

Alex offers after-hours appointments at our Alexandria office on Mondays and Thursdays.
